Bob Brotchie, a paramedic with nearly 15 years experience, knew that up-to-date medical
information could mean the difference between life and death for critically ill patients,
while also realizing the importance of informing relatives about their loved one's
condition as quickly as possible.
In many emergency situations that Bob has faced, Bob had to rely on contacts in the
victims' cell phone to gather information about the victim. After researching, Bob
found that over 75% of the population carried a cell phone, hence the birth of the
original ICE™ Concept.
Since the official launch of the ICE™ Awareness Campaign, news and media coverage
in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica and Singapore
has reached millions of people, making ICE™ internationally known. To
date it is estimated that approximately 10 million cellular subscribers have entered
ICE™ into their mobile devices.
ICE™ has been working with emergency personnel around the world. Together we have
discussed many of the different situations that they encounter, and found there
are circumstances for which the initial ICE™ concept would not be applicable:
1. Do not carry a wireless phone
2. Your wireless phone becomes lost or damaged
3. Your wireless phone battery expires
4. EMR cannot pair the wireless phone with its owner
5. EMR cannot access your particular phone models address book
6. Your address book is locked by PIN Code
To address these issues, ICE™ has developed the ICE™ Membership programs.
By joining ICE™, members can store up to four (4) emergency contacts, and their
medical information including religious and donor wishes on our secure database.
ICE™ has developed a centralized call center that is operated and answered
24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. Our call center is
answered by highly trained personnel that will authenticate all emergency
calls to ensure the validity of the situation. Once the situation has been
verified, our operators will access our secure database and release the
members' medical information for immediate aide. Our operators will begin
the process of establishing contact with the members' designated ICE™
contacts.
